Nicholas Hytner’s Olivier Award-winning production of Handel’s comic masterpiece returns to the London Coliseum with its mix of humour, sexuality and seething emotions.
Evoking Vauxhall’s pleasure gardens of the 18th century, Xerces centres on the rivalry between Xerxes and his brother Arsamenes for the love of the same woman.
The show sees internationally renowned mezzo-soprano Alice Coote take on the title role for the first time at ENO. She is joined by counter-tenor Andrew Watts as Arsamenes and Sarah Tynan as Romilda.
Xerxes is sung and subtitled in English.
