The World premiere of David Eldridge’s new version of Ibsen’s classic, which asks ‘should truth reign supreme?’ and what are the effects if it does? The son of a wealthy businessman takes the view that truth is everything, so strives to expose his father’s duplicity and to free his childhood friend from the web of deceit on which his very happy home life is built.

Ibsen, whose plays include Hedda Gabler, The Master Builder, A Doll’s House and Peer Gynt, is considered by many the father of modern drama. Eldridge’s plays include Incomplete And Random Acts Of Kindness, M.A.D. and his highly-acclaimed adaptation of Festen.

Donmar Warehouse Artistic Director Michael Grandage directs the production; his first at the Donmar since Grand Hotel at the turn of 2005. His many other credits include Guys And Dolls (Piccadilly), Don Carlos (Gielgud), After Miss Julie and Caligula (Donmar), for which he won the 2004 Olivier Award for Best Director.
