Jamie Lloyd directs the UK premiere of Tony Award-winning musical Urinetown at the St James theatre.
Featuring music and lyrics by Mark Hollmann and book and lyrics by Greg Kotis, Urinetown is set in a futuristic city suffering from a severe drought, where business tycoon Caldwell B Cladwell has made his millions through bribery and the monopolisation of public toilets. With a brutal police force enforcing the law, this is not a place to get caught short. For those who do, it’s a one-way trip to Urinetown.
The musical’s run, which was shrouded in secrecy until announced as the secret UGC London project, follows a successful stint on Broadway between 2001 and 1004, where it picked up the Tony Awards for Best Book, Best Score and Best Direction.
Lloyd’s most recent directing credits include the star-studded Trafalgar Transformed season at the Trafalgar Studios and The Commitments at the Palace theatre.
