The creative team behind Southwark Playhouse’s Three Sisters and The Seagull brings another of Chekhov’s classics to the St James Theatre as part of the One Stage season.
Adapted by Anya Reiss and directed by Russell Bolam, Uncle Vanya is transposed to a modern day rural setting with the aim of reigniting the wickedly comic masterpiece for new audiences.
Four Weddings And A Funeral star John Hannah returns to the stage to play the title role. The actor’s many starring screen roles include hit films Sliding Doors and The Mummy, and television series A Touch Of Cloth, Blood And Sand and Cold Blood. His previous stage credits include Rifleman (Trafalgar Studios), The Mercy Seat (Almeida Theatre), Miss Julie (Young Vic) and Somewhere (National Theatre).
Uncle Vanya plays as part of the One Stage season, an initiative from Stage One, the theatrical charity that is committed to supporting producers for the commercial theatre industry.
