Ken Stott, Anna Friel, Laura Carmichael and Samuel West star in Lindsay Posner’s new production of Chekhov’s Uncle Vanya.

Adapted by Christopher Hampton, Chekhov’s drama about the trials and tribulations of the human condition combines sparkling wit and earthy humour to tell the story of four individuals, who are all in love with ideals, the past and each other. As their universe shifts around them, they struggle to keep their emotions at bay.

Best known for his on-screen roles in Messiah, The Vice, Toast and Rebus, Stott takes on the title role in this production having previously appeared in A View From The Bridge at the Duke of York’s theatre, which was also directed by Posner.

Returning to the stage following her appearance in Breakfast At Tiffany’s at the Theatre Royal Haymarket, Friel steps into the shoes of the beautiful Yelena alongside West, star of the Royal Court’s Enron, who plays the introspective philosopher Astrov.

Posner’s most recent work includes the hit comedy Noises Off, Butley, Death And The Maiden and An Ideal Husband.
