Thom Southerland launches his inaugural season as Artistic Director of the Charing Cross Theatre with a revival of his award-winning 2013 musical production of Titanic.
Winning critical acclaim and no shortage of plaudits at the Southwark Playhouse, the musical transfers to the Villiers Street venue to tell of the hopes, aspirations and horrors of those on-board the ill-fated ‘unsinkable’ ship.
Based on actual characters present at the events which surrounded one of the most infamous tragedies in modern history, classes separate the immigrants from the aristocracy and the newly-enfranchised from the millionaires. But all are soon thrown into a desperate battle for survival – together.
With music and lyrics by Maury Yeston and book by Peter Stone, the result is Tony Award-winning material, leant a new take by Southerland in a stunning production.
