An award-winning modern opera, Thunderstorm plays as part of the London Coliseum’s Shanghai Season, telling the tale of one family’s corruption behind a façade of utmost respectability.

Zhou Puyuan is the head of a seemingly model household in Old Shanghai, brimming with wealth, health and happiness. But all is not what it seems, as a storm gathers which threatens to cause the masqueraded corruption to overspill.

The result is a web of intrigue, and a terrible family secret. With his veneer exposed, and family disintegrating around him, Zhou is confronted by the emergence of a new China.

Based on Cao Yu’s acclaimed play and with music by legendary composer Mo Fan, Thunderstorm will immerse audiences in the beautiful atmosphere of Old Shanghai in a lavish, not-to-be-missed production.
