The Toxic Avenger is the rock musical based on the 1984 comedy-horror-cult classic film of the same name, from the team behind West End hit Memphis.
Following a critically acclaimed UK premiere at Southwark Playhouse in 2016, The Toxic Avenger has transferred to the Arts Theatre for a strictly limited season.
The citizens of Tromaville are crying out for a hero … Enter nerdy Melvin Ferd the Third, an aspiring earth scientist, determined to clean up the state’s major toxic waste problem. When a corrupt Mayor and her government goons get wind of his plans, they vow to stop this heroic feat.
Melvin is tossed into a vat of toxic waste, and transformed into The Toxic Avenger – a mutant freak with superhuman strength and a supersized heart! Toxie is out to save New Jersey, end global warming and win the heart of his beloved.
The Toxic Avenger is the brainchild of Joe DiPietro and David Bryan (an original founding member and keyboardist/vocalist for rock giants, Bon Jovi). They are the Tony Award-winning creative team behind the smash hit West End musical Memphis.
The original creative team will reunite for the show’s transfer, with direction by Benji Sperring, musical direction by Alex Beetschen, set and costume design by Takis, sound design by Andrew Johnson, lighting design by Nic Farman and choreography by Lucie Pankhurst.
The Toxic Avenger musical premiered in New York City in 2009, opening to rave reviews. It was nominated for three Drama Desk awards and won the Outer Critics Circle Award for Outstanding New Off-Broadway Musical. It has been seen in Texas, Hawaii, Australia and Edinburgh and, at long last, The Toxic Avenger finally arrives in London!
Prepare to laugh, scream and sing to songs including Who Will Save New Jersey?, Get The Geek, Thank God She’s Blind, Hot Toxic Love and Choose Me, Oprah!, as ‘Toxie’ rocks the house down and saves the day!
