Now in its second year, The Bridge Project is a transatlantic collaboration between the Old Vic and Brooklyn Academy of Music which brings together a company of actors from both sides of the Atlantic to perform a double bill of classic plays.
This year, director Sam Mendes directs As You Like It and The Tempest with a company led by Stephan Dillane, Christian Camargo, Ron Cephas Jones and Juliet Rylance.
The Tempest, Shakespeare’s tale of magic, revenge and forgiveness, is led by Dillane as Prospero. The actor, who returns to the stage for the first time since winning a Tony Award for Tom Stoppard’s The Real Thing, is also known for his screen work which includes Mel Gibson’s Hamlet, The Hours, Welcome To Sarajevo and mini-series John Adams.
American actor Camargo, who plays Ariel in The Tempest, has appeared on Broadway several times, including in the role of Hamlet. However he is probably best known for playing Rudy in US TV drama Dexter.
Young British actress Rylance (Miranda in The Tempest), the daughter of acclaimed actor Mark Rylance, has appeared on stage both in New York and London, including Shakespeare’s Globe.
The Tempest plays in repertoire with As You Like It.
