Shakespeare’s most problematic comedy, The Taming Of The Shrew, follows warring ‘lovers’ Petruchio and Katherine.
Baptista has two daughters, the strong-willed Katherine and the much-desired Bianca. He will not allow Bianca to marry until Katherine also has a husband. Eccentric bachelor Petruchio announces that he will marry the forthright daughter, and sets about ‘taming’ her.
The cast is led by Michelle Gomez, star of cult quirky television comedy Green Wing and successful stage farce Boeing Boeing, as Katherine.
The Taming Of The Shrew is the third and final production in the Royal Shakespeare Company’s 2008/09 season at the Novello, following David Tennant in Hamlet and a new production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
