Matthew Dunster directs a new version of Anton’s Chekhov’s first play The Seagull at the Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre.

Widely celebrated as one of the most important plays of the 19th century, it tells the classic story of guests coming together at a country house for the staging of an avant-garde play. As they begin to assemble, artistic temperaments ignite a more entertaining drama behind the scenes, with romantic jealousies, self-doubt and the ruthless pursuit of happiness confusing lives, loves and literature.

Dunster returns to the alfresco venue following his work on A Midsummer Night’s Dream in 2012. This new version of the Chekhov classic is adapted by Torben Betts.
