Following a sold-out run at the Abbey Theatre in Dublin, plus a successful Irish and US tour, The Plough And The Stars has made its way to London for a strictly limited run – until 7 April 2018.

Originally produced as part of the 100th-anniversary celebrations of the 1916 Easter Rising, The Plough And The Stars tells the story of ordinary lives ripped apart by political unease.

As the streets of Dublin are hit by violence, residents of a tenement take shelter from the outside world. A history-making revolution rages around them. But what kind of Ireland awaits after the dust settles?

Though remaining true to Seán O’Casey’s original 1926 play, this dynamic re-imagining of events resonates with a modern audience.

Having caused riots when it first played at the Abbey Theatre in 1926, The Plough And The Stars is now regarded as a masterpiece and an essential part of our understanding of 1916 Ireland.

In addition to Niall Buggy and Ian Lloyd Anderson (who are playing Peter Flynn and Jack Clitheroe), Kate Stanley Brennan, Ciaran O’Brien and Liam Heslin reprise their roles or Nora Clitheroe, The Young Covey and Captain Brennan respectively, from the US tour.

Olivier Award-winner, Sean Holmes, directs the absorbing play, which was nominated for four Irish Times Theatre Awards in 2016. As the Artistic Director of the Lyric Hammersmith, Sean’s credits include Blasted, Bugsy Malone and A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

This production of The Plough And The Stars is a Lyric Hammersmith and Abbey Theatre production, supported by Culture Ireland as part of GB18: Promoting Irish Arts in Britain.
