Actress and director Fiona Shaw stages Mozart’s great comic opera, The Marriage Of Figaro.
Mozart’s operatic tale of one crazy day, The Marriage Of Figaro, has, with its story of a Count’s valet who desperately attempts to wed his lover before his philandering master can lure her to his own lustful bed, has become one of the world’s favourite comic operas.
Shaw, whose last London stage performance came in the National Theatre production of London Assurance, has previously directed Riders To The Sea and Elegy For Young Lovers for English National Opera.
Former ENO Music Director Paul Daniel returns to conduct The Marriage Of Figaro’s impressive young cast led by Iain Paterson, recently admired at ENO in such diverse roles as Verdi’s Amonasro, Gounod’s Mephistopheles, Mozart’s Don Giovanni and Wagner’s Amfortas, as Figaro and Kate Valentine, who previously appeared in Shaw’s production of Riders To The Sea, as the predatory Count’s long-suffering but all-forgiving wife.
