Harold Pinter’s The Caretaker is a story of two brothers and a tramp, and was the playwright’s first major success as a dramatist.
Davies is down and out when Aston takes him in for the night. Lost in a shoeless world, chasing papers in Sidcup, Davies soon fancies his chances at something more permanent. Then Aston’s fiery brother Mick shows up. As the odd couple becomes an odd number, who will be the odd man out?
Power games and simmering tension combine with wonderful comedy and Pinter’s eloquent dialogue to make The Caretaker a totally mesmerising experience.
Jonathan Pryce, who leads the cast of The Caretaker as Davies, is a Laurence Olivier and Tony Award winner with credits including Hamlet, Miss Saigon, Oliver! My Fair Lady and Glengarry Glen Ross. His film career includes Evita, Tomorrow Never Dies and the Pirates Of The Caribbean trilogy.
First produced in 1960, this 2010 revival at the Trafalgar Studios, marks the 50th anniverary of The Caretaker’s premiere.
