Following on from last year’s Sophie’s Choice, new work specially comissioned by The Royal Opera features again in this Season with The Tempest, based on the Shakespeare play. The music is by Thomas Adès, a young British composer who established his international reputation through the huge success of his chamber opera Powder her Face (1995) and whose orchestral works are performed by the world’s great symphony orchestras. Poet and playwright Meredith Oakes, whose previous opera work has been praised for its vivacity and wit, contributes the libretto while Tom Cairns makes his directorial debut.
Sung in English with surtitles.
