English National Ballet presents two masterpieces in one performance: Kenneth MacMillan’s Song Of The Earth, and Frank Andersen’s recreation of the classic ballet La Sylphide.
Song Of The Earth is a profoundly moving work, set to Mahler’s haunting song cycle Das Lied von der Erde, performed live. Music, poetry and choreography come together to capture the fragility of life, and its constant renewal. Three central figures portray the bittersweet reality of love, loss, and mortality: a Woman, a Man and an enigmatic Messenger.
La Sylphide is one of the jewels of a Romantic ballet. On the morning of his wedding day, James glimpses a mysterious forest spirit, and becomes obsessed with her. This sets off a fateful sequence of events where joy turns to sorrow and love to betrayal. From joyous party scenes to lyrical duets, this beautiful production has been lovingly recreated from the original classic. It is accompanied by an enchanting score performed live by English National Ballet Philharmonic.
