Carey Mulligan makes her West End debut alongside Bill Nighy and Matthew Beard in David Hare’s Olivier Award-winning play Skylight.

The Great Gatsby star takes on the role of school teacher Kyra Hollis who on a cold evening in London receives an unexpected visit from widower and former lover Tom Sergeant. As the pair try to rekindle their once passionate relationship, they find themselves locked in a battle of opposing ideologies and mutual desires.

BAFTA-winning actress Mulligan is best known for her film roles, which alongside the 2013 blockbuster starring Leonardo DiCaprio include Shame, Never Let Me Go, Inside Llewyn Davis and An Education. While Skylight will mark her first West End stage outing, she has previously performed at the Royal Court in Forty Winks and The Seagull.

Nighy returns to the role of Tom Sergeant following his performance in the original 1995 production at the National Theatre. While he too is well known for his film credits, which include Love Actually and The Boat That Rocked, Nighy has also appeared extensively on stage, including productions of Hare’s Pravda, Map Of The World and The Vertical Hour.

Best known as the star of And When Did You Last See Your Father?, Beard makes his stage debut in Skylight having previously worked with Mulligan on An Education and One Day.

The production is directed by Olivier Award winner Stephen Daldry with designs by Bob Crowley.
