French director Emmanuel Demarcy-Mota endows Luigi Pirandello’s Nobel Prize-winning play Six Characters In Search Of An Author with a disturbing immediacy in this dream-like production at the Barbican Theatre.
A dysfunctional family interrupts a theatre company in the midst of rehearsals. They are unfinished characters in need of a new author to complete their story and free them from eternal limbo. Intrigued, the director agrees to turn their troubling tale into a drama, but as a performance of sorts unfolds, actors and characters, reality and illusion, soon collide.
Releasing the mystery, chaos and darkness at the heart of Pirandello’s absurdist classic, the production features a 14-strong cast who together bring a fiery dynamism to the surreal interplay between two tribes of hopelessly divided human beings.
Please note, this production is performed in French with English surtitles. It is suitable for individuals aged 14 and older.
