The National Youth Theatre presents the world premiere of Selfie, a radical retelling of Oscar Wilde’s The Picture Of Dorian Gray, as part of the company’s West End season.
Inspired by Wilde’s iconic tale of deception, youth and vanity, this new staging by Brad Birch and the NYT REP Company brings literature’s most conceited anti-hero back to theatrical life in a contemporary setting.
Set in the not so distant future, the show charts the story of artist Basil Hallward who becomes infatuated with his new client Dorian, a woman who is unaware of her striking beauty. Dorian enters Basil’s hipster circle of artists and entrepreneurs and is soon plagued by self-doubt and vanity, doing whatever it takes to remain beautiful.
Other shows in the National Youth Theatre’s West End season include Macbeth and Private Peaceful.
