The Arcola presents a new translation of Anton Chekhov’s classic work, retitled Seagull.
In 19th century Russia an anxious young writer prepares the first performance of his new play for the two women in his life. The consequences are devastating, with everybody in love with the wrong person and death hovering close by.
Through comedy and tragedy Seagull explores lives that are balanced between love and indifference, success and failure, hope and despair.
Seagull stars Geraldine James as Arkadina. Her extensive theatre credits include Hamlet on Broadway, The UN Inspector and Cymbeline for the National Theatre and Faith Healer at the Almeida. She is joined by Roger Lloyd Pack, who is as well known for his stage work as for his television roles in Only Fools And Horses and The Vicar Of Dibley.
