The Lyric Hammersmith presents the first revival in 25 years of Edward Bond’s seminal play, Saved.

Banned by the censor on its 1965 premiere, Saved divided the critics with its vision of working class South London, a shocking portrayal of violence which included a scene in which a baby was stoned to death. Backed by industry figures including Laurence Olivier, Saved was instrumental in the eventual abolition of the censor and has proved a highly influential piece of work, inspiring a generation of British playwrights.

Following last year’s revival of the equally controversial Blasted, by Sarah Kane, Lyric Hammersmith Artistic Director Sean Holmes directs this new production of Saved.

Saved is followed, in April 2012, by the staging of three short one-act plays by Bond, two of which are directed by the playwright himself.

Saved is suitable for theatregoers aged 14 and older.
