Fan favourite David Tennant reprises his award-winning role with the Royal Shakespeare Company as Shakespeare’s vain king, Richard II, for a strictly limited time only.

Former Doctor Who star Tennant plays the monarch ordained by God to lead his people through divine right. But a man, too, he remains, and in his position of power he is subject to most human of weaknesses: vanity.

With his trait endangering domestic stability and dividing the great houses of England, the king’s self-obsession drives the country to the brink of a hundred years’ devastating civil war.

Reunited with Gregory Doran, Artistic Director of the RSC, Tennant’s previous exploits in the role garnered critical acclaim.

As part of the Royal Shakespeare Company’s King and Country: Shakespeare’s Great Cycle of Kings event, marking the 400th anniversary of the Bard’s death, Richard II is bookable as part of a four-play cycle in rep, with individual performances running between 7-10 Jan only.
