Based on Puccini’s opera La Boheme, the original version of Rent, written by Jonathan Larson, was set in early 1990s New York and followed a group of young New Yorkers as they struggle to fulfil their aspirations against a tide of grim reality.
This is a new version which has been re-orchestrated and reworked by William Baker and Steve Anderson, both known for their long-time collaboration with popstrel Kylie Minogue. They have cast aside the grunge and the guitars to create a contemporary Rent for the 21st century.
