New Labour high-flyer Alex leaves London and heads north to the District council of Wyverdale. There he is charged with creating a recovery plan for an area that failed its government audit. But all the websites, faith festivals and leaflets in Bengali seem thoroughly beside the point to the Labour old guard struggling to even provide the necessities for an alienated and divided community. As racial tensions become more fraught, good intentions lead to unthinkable consequences.
