The Playground is a powerful and moving drama set in rural South Africa during the last days of apartheid and the first dawn of the new democracy. It tells the story of ten year-old Rosa, one of the first black children to enrol in the formally Whites Only Oranje Primary School. The Playground is the debut play by the children’s novelist Beverly Naidoo, who won the Carnegie Medal for children’s fiction with The Other Side Of Truth.
The play is suitable for anyone over nine years old.
