Pushing the boundaries of street dance, Pied Piper is a bold, contemporary, hip-hop performance inspired by Robert Browning’s poem The Pied Piper of Hamelin. It is an innovative, original and thrilling fusion of dance and narrative, taking an edgy look at morality.

In an unnamed modern urban setting ruled by Clown Governors, the rats in the original poem become youths in black hoodies and are branded ASBOs. Pied Piper is a satirical performance exploring the recurring tabloid headlines, ‘Who will rid our streets of this vermin?’

Pied Piper won a Laurence Olivier Award in 2007, following a sell-out season at Theatre Royal Stratford East.

Since its establishment in 2001 by Kenrick Sandy and Michael Asante, Boy Blue Entertainment, which created Pied Piper, has provided access to dance training to more than 500 young people and is now probably East London’s largest and most innovative street dance troupe.

ULTZ has designed and directed plays and operas around the world but it is his love of hip-hop that inspired the idea for Pied Piper which led to his award-winning collaboration with Boy Blue Entertainment.

Pied Piper is suitable for theatregoers aged 10 and older.
