Out Of Time provides a fascinating insight into Colin Dunne’s private world as a dancer. This solo multi-media show takes a step back from the frenetic world of competitive and commercial Irish dance to offer a contemporary perspective on the art form.
Creating a hauntingly evocative soundscape, Dunne mixes percussive dance with live sound processing and archival film footage of traditional dancers.
Intimate, personal and provocative, Out Of Time looks to the past for simple beginnings as Dunne playfully renegotiates his relationship with a tradition that has shaped his life.
Out Of Time premiered in January 2008 at Glór Irish Music Centre and has since played at the Madrid En Danza and Dublin Dance Festival.
Dunne previously performed at the Barbican in Fabulous Beast’s production of The Bull in 2007, a self-parodying role which saw him rewarded with a nomination for the Spotlight Award, Male Artist (Modern) from the Critics’ Circle National Dance Awards.
Internationally acclaimed in the world of Irish step dance – he won his first world title at nine and was principal dancer with Riverdance from 1995–1998 – Dunne has been forging a new creative path since gaining an MA in Contemporary Dance at the University of Limerick in 2002.
