The new Royal Ballet season begins with John Cranko’s Onegin.

Taken from Pushkin’s novel Yyvgeny Onegin, the ballet tells the tale of Tatiana and Onegin. While she blooms from provincial young girl to sophisticated St Petersburg aristocrat, he descends from high-handed indifference to overwhelming despair. Onegin kills his best friend Lensky in a duel, causing tragedy for Lensky’s love Olga. While Onegin at first spurns Tatiana, it is her rejection of him that will bring down the final crushing blow.

With music taken from Tchaikovsky in a specially created score, this ballet brings the world of Imperial Russia alive in a ballet of colour, drama, beauty and passion.
