Simon Russell Beale reprises his role as 18th century entertainer Samuel Foote in Ian Kelly’s hit comedy Mr Foote’s Other Leg.
Transferring to the West End following a sold-out run at the Hampstead Theatre, the play charts the story of satirist and comedian Foote as he becomes a celebrity in London. As he finds himself at the end of attacks from the press (and a surgeon’s knife), his colleagues on stage and off begin to wonder, does fame make you mad?
The transfer to the Theatre Royal Haymarket marks an apt move for Richard Eyre’s production as Foote was both theatre manager and a performer at the venue.
Olivier Award winner Russell Beale is joined by all nine members of the original cast, which comprises Dervla Kirwan, Joseph Millson, Micah Balfour, Jenny Galloway, Kelly, Forbes Masson, Colin Stinton, Sophie Bleasdale and Joshua Elliott.
