This wonderful new production for all the family, Magical Night is a fantasy sparked by magic and filled with colour.
As two children fall asleep one magical night, a fairy appears to cast a spell that brings familiar storybook characters to life for a evening of fantastic adventures with the boy and girl. Adventures over, they drift back to sleep with just the memories of their magical night.
Magical Night is choreographed by ROH2 Associate Aletta Collins, whose version of The Red Balloon was a previous success.
Magical Night’s music for chamber ensemble is by Kurt Weill. It is, in fact, the first piece of his for theatre that he ever had performed. But after its premiere in 1922 and a handful of performances in the next few years, most of the music was lost. It was only in 2000 that it was reconstructed from various surviving materials.
