As part of Classic Spring’s Oscar Wilde season, multi-award-winner Kathy Burke directs an all-star cast in Lady Windermere’s Fan at the Vaudeville Theatre until 7 April.
The actor, director, comedian and playwright has brought together a dream-team of comic actors to star in Oscar Wilde’s hilarious marital comedy. Jennifer Saunders, Kevin Bishop and double Olivier Award-winner Samantha Spiro will star alongside an incredible cast, which includes Grace Molony and Joseph Marcell (The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air) in the Victorian melodrama.
On the day of her birthday party, everything is in order until Lady Windermere’s friend, Lord Darlington (Bishop), makes her question her husband’s faithfulness. Is her husband having an affair? And will the other woman have the cheek to attend the party?
After a 20 years absence, Jennifer Saunders – playing the Duchess of Berwick – is making her West End comeback and with her bringing a performance packed with her signature comedy style.
Samantha Spiro, playing Mrs Erlynne, won an Olivier Award for her performance in Merrily We Roll Along at the Donmar Warehouse, while Kevin Bishop will play Lord Darlington, having recently starred in one-man show Fully Committed at the Menier Chocolate Factory.
Kathy Burke won the Best Actress award at the 1997 Cannes Film Festival for her role in Gary Oldman’s film Nil By Mouth. Her acting credits include Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, Dancing In Lughnasa, Absolutely Fabulous, and French And Saunders.
Lady Windermere’s Fan was Oscar Wilde’s first hit. The four-act comedy was first produced in 1892 and features the well-known line “We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars.”
Lady Windermere’s Fan is the second production in the Oscar Wilde season, put on by Classic Spring – a brand new company created by former Artistic Director of Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre, Dominic Dromgoole.
