John Copley’s production brings 19th century Paris to the stage in La Bohème, one of the great romances of all opera.

It tells the story of penniless poet Rodolfo who falls in love with seamstress Mimì. But their happiness is threatened when Rodolfo learns that Mimì is gravely ill.

With memorable music and a love story drawn from everyday life, Giacomo Puccini’s romantic depiction of bohemian Paris has captivated audiences around the world for more than a century.

Copley’s production recreates the European capital city in the 1830s, from the lively Latin Quarter, where hawkers and traders ply their wares, to a drafty attic where impoverished artists live hand-to-mouth.

La Bohème was first performed in Covent Garden in 1987 and has since played more than 500 performances there.

The production is sung in Italian with English surtitles.
