Billie Piper stars with Oliver Chris and Robert Glenister in this frantic new satire about the press, the police and the political establishment, Great Britain.
Olivier Award nominated actress Piper, best known for her TV roles in Doctor Who and Secret Diary Of A Call Girl, plays ambitious young news editor Paige Britain in Richard Bean’s new play. Her red top, The Free Press, is a tabloid newspaper embroiled in an ongoing fight to secure more readers.
The play, written by the playwright behind National Theatre hit One Man, Two Guvnors, whose production of Pitcairn also plays at the Globe this summer, has been in secret rehearsals at the National Theatre during the recent phone hacking trials. When the verdicts on Andy Coulson and Rebekah Brooks were delivered, the NT announced the show’s opening.
Great Britain is directed by the National Theatre’s Director, Nicholas Hytner, whose hit productions at the South Bank venue include Othello, Hamlet, The Man Of Mode and The History Boys.
