Heartbreak is the inspiration behind one of the most influential Romantic ballets.
Giselle, a peasant girl, takes her own life when she discovers that her young lover is actually Count Albrecht and is unable to marry her. Rising from the dead she preys on Albrecht, but when he repents and visits her grave, she too changes her mission, protecting him from the touch of her phantom sisters.
Peter Wright’s sensitive staging, combined with the design of John F Macfarlane, provides a contrast between the physical world and supernatural world.
