Part of a mixed programme, this abstract ballet follows the changing moods of Joby Talbot’s score as it moves between discordant and lighter passages.

Fool’s Paradise was created for Christopher Wheeldon’s former company Morphoses and had its premiere at Sadler’s Wells in 2007. Talbot, with whom Wheeldon collaborated on Alice’s Adventures In Wonderland, provided lusciously romantic music that was adapted from his score for The Dying Swan, a 1916 silent film.

Blending classical technique with a modern sensibility in choreography of great beauty, Fool’s Paradise sees dancers move through solos, duets and trios, occasionally settling into still, sculptural tableaux.

The work contains a moving pas de deux and builds to a spectacular arrangement for the whole ensemble, as gold petals shower down on the stage.
