Patrician general Caius Martius returns victorious from war to a Rome in which the two worlds of the aristocracy and the ordinary citizen are clearly divided. Siding with the aristocracy, and showing a revulsion for the ordinary Roman, Martius is exposed by his political rivals and thrown into exile. The exile, however, feeds his hunger for war and violence.

At the heart of arguably Shakespeare’s greatest political play is the story of one man’s tragedy. New Artistic Director of Shakespeare’s Globe, Dominic Dromgoole, directs the first production of The Edges Of Rome season.

The production employs Jacobean staging, clothing and music.
