The Oscar-winning film of Olympic ambition Chariots Of Fire comes to the London stage during the Olympic summer.
Based on the extraordinary true story of Eric Liddell and Harold Abrahams, Chariots Of Fire tells the tale of the Paris Olympic Games of 1924, where a devout Scottish Christian runs for the glory of God while the son of an immigrant Lithuanian Jew runs to overcome prejudice. Though spurred on by different motivations, the two young track athletes live for the purity of running.
This stage adaptation of Chariots Of Fire, which runs at the Hampstead theatre before transferring into the West End, sees the Gielgud theatre transformed by design Miriam Buether, creating an immersive experience and evoking the spirit of the 1924 Olympics.
Chariots Of Fire is adapted for the stage by award-winning playwright Mike Bartlett, whose previous works include Earthquakes In London and 13 for the National Theatre and Cock, Contractions and My Child for the Royal Court.
Chariots Of Fire is directed by Hampstead theatre’s Artistic Director Edward Hall.
