Founded in 2003, New York based Cedar Lake Contemporary Ballet has been recognised for its exceptionally talented dancers and an emphasis on cultivating collaborations with the world’s most sought-after choreographers. Under the artistic direction of Benoit-Swan Pouffer, Cedar Lake has amassed one of the most diverse repertoires in contemporary dance. The 2013-2014 season marks the company’s tenth anniversary and also marks a return to Sadler’s Wells after a hugely successful first visit last year.
The company will be performing three works that illustrate daring athleticism. Opening the programme is Indigo Rose, a dazzling showcase for the Cedar Lake dancers, created by renowned choreographer Jiří Kylián. Ten Duets On A Theme Of Rescue, by Canadian choreographer Crystal Pite, is a stunning example of a clearly defined vision where nothing is tentative or inefficient. Completing the bill, Necessity, Again by Norwegian Jo Strømgren is a bold, joyous piece in which fun triumphs, performed to a selection of songs by Charles Aznavour.
