The O2 hosts its first ever fully staged opera, Bizet’s Carmen, for three performances only.
From the very first note to the final tragic chords, this in-the-round production vividly portrays the powerful story of lust, superstition and murder that passionately unravels with fatal consequences.
Carmen is performed by a cast of over 200 including dancers, acrobats and fire-eaters. The set and costumes bring to life the dusty atmosphere of the town square, the cool night air of the smugglers’ mountain hideout and the colourful festivities outside the bullring in Seville.
This production of Carmen is sung in English and features some of opera’s finest arias – including The Song Of The Toreador and the Flower Song – played in this production by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.
Darius Campbell, who came to fame in Pop Stars The Rivals, will play the role of Escamillo for one performance only on 23 May. Campbell recently won the reality show Pop Star to Opera Star.
