David Alden returns to English National Opera to create a new production of Britten’s all-male Billy Budd.
The story of an outsider aboard a naval ship, Billy Budd is a young man full of optimism and good-heartedness. But his charisma and beauty cause the evil master-at-arms to bring about his downfall, utilising Billy’s fatal flaw, a stutter under pressure.
Billy Budd reunites the team between ENO’s Olivier Award-winning Peter Grimes, Alden and conductor Edward Gardner.
