Balé De Rua bursts onto the Barbican stage with a pulsating mix of hip-hop, African dance, samba and capoeira, following its triumphant performance at the 2008 Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
Hailing from the streets of Brazil, Balé De Rua’s adrenalin-fuelled cast of 15 men and one woman delivers a high pressure performance celebrating life, love and all things Brazilian.
A lively backdrop of percussion sets the scene for this inspiring event displaying the power of the Brazilian people. Exhilarating break-dancing and breathless body movements help ensure Balé De Rua is a dynamic and engaging street ballet.
Fernando Narduchi, Marco Antônio Garcia and José Marciel Silva created the Cia De Dança Balé De Rua (Street Ballet) in 1992, after collaborating for four years in the great urban dance movement in Uberlândia, a small city in the middle of Brazil.
Originally from a very poor community, the group has realised the many dreams they had for themselves and for their colleagues through hard work, perseverance and breathtaking choreography.
