American Trade is a funny, outspoken play about survival,and a celebration of 21st century London in all its extravagant, confusing and dynamic diversity.

When things start to get a little too hot for him in New York, good-looking, charismatic hustler Pharus escapes the clutches of rap star Jules and moves to London, where he starts up an escort business under the guise of a model agency.

American Trade demonstrates the pressures and absurdities – for locals and immigrants alike – of making it in the big city. It also throws a wry light on society’s obsessions, from desire and control to deception and image.

American Trade is the latest play by exciting young playwright Tarell Alvin McCraney, whose previous works include In The Red And Brown Water and The Brothers Size, both of which were staged at the Young Vic.
