Platel’s reinvents Monteverdi’s Maria Vespers, following the idea of allowing modern musicians to ‘jam’ around Monteverdi’s devotional music. The result brings together jazz, baroque and gypsy components.
The music combines with the short films of Dr Arthur Van Gehuchten, made at the start of the 19th Century, to mark the starting point for a project involving ten dancers, nine musicians and a lone singer.
Platel founded Les Ballets C de la B in 1984. Since then the dance and theatre collective has forged a reputation for giving powerfully theatrical dance performances.
