Jo hasn’t had it easy, growing up with a volatile, alcoholic mother, moving from one bedsit to another. After meeting sailor Jimmy, she finds herself pregnant. Abandoned by her mother she seeks solace with a friend, but when Jo’s mother reappears, the life that she has so delicately put together for herself gradually starts to fall apart again.
