The Southwark Playhouse hosts this hilariously alternative take on Shakespeare’s classic comedy A Midsummer Night’s Dream, with a cast of just seven actors charged with playing all 17 roles.
Shakespeare’s jovial text of four young lovers’ escapades in the forest, and the magical powers manipulating them from within, is leant an altogether more riotous twist as the reduced Go People and Glass Half Full company do their farcical utmost to compensate for the 10-actor shortfall befalling them.
With a reduced cast number led by rising star of the West End stage Freddie Fox and EastEnders’ Maddy Hill, and directed by Simon Evans (Bug and The Dazzle at Found 111), this is an anarchic 90 minute romp of a production of the popular play.
The show, as ever, must go on.
