Sometimes we tell stories to entertain. Sometimes we tell stories to explain who we are. And sometimes we tell stories to survive. In contemporary Britain, there is a factory making Christmas decorations where a group of migrant workers sustain one another by telling stories. From fables and allegories to eyewitness accounts, they are by turns moving, brutal or hilarious. The flames of hope, passion and identity burn bright in them all. Nine leading writers of Middle Eastern origin revisit the story of Sheherazade and her 1001 Arabian Nights, exposing with insight, colour and wit the lives of people who seek refuge.
The Albany is delighted to welcome Northern Stage, one of England’s leading theatre companies, for this stunning piece of devised theatre featuring award-winning comedian Shazia Mirza. This new production will be specifically adapted for The Albany stage and is your only chance to see the show in London.
