Zoë Wanamaker will star opposite Barbara Flynn and Nina Sosanya in the world premiere of Nick Payne’s Elegy at the Donmar Warehouse in April.
The latest play from the Constellations writer will be directed by Artistic Director Josie Rourke and sees all three actresses make their returns to the iconic Covent Garden venue from 21 April to 18 May.
Wanamaker, who starred in the Kenneth Branagh Theatre Company’s recent double bill Harlequinade / All On Her Own at the Garrick Theatre, has previously appeared at the Donmar Warehouse in Boston Marriage, The Glass Menagerie and Electra, the latter of which earned the Harry Potter and My Family star an Olivier Award in 1998.
Open All Hours’ Flynn and Last Tango In Halifax star Sosanya have both been seen more recently on the Donmar’s stage, Sosanya in election comedy The Vote and James Graham’s Privacy, and Flynn in 2014’s Versailles.
Imagining a very near future when unprecedented medical advances allow life to be extended, Elegy follows the moving story of three women – Lorna, Carrie and Miriam – who’ve made the choice between love and survival.
The production will open at the Donmar Warehouse following the current run of the Dominic West-led Les Liaisons Dangereuses and the forthcoming arrival of Jean Anouilh’s riotous 1937 family drama Welcome Home, Captain Fox!, which will be presented in a new version by Anthony Weigh from 18 February to 16 April.
