Susan Hill’s The Woman In Black has announced cast changes to take effect from Tuesday 22 May 2018, ahead of the show’s 30th West End birthday in June.
The ominously atmospheric show will star actors Richard Hope (Queen Anne, The History Boys) and Mark Hawkins (The Railway Children) as Arthur Kipps and The Actor respectively. The titular character’s identity, of course, remains a mystery.
Stephen Mallatratt’s stage adaptation of Hill’s gripping novel tells the story of a lawyer, obsessed with a curse that he believes has been cast over his family by the spectre of a ‘Woman In Black’. To exorcise his demons, he seeks the help of a young actor to help him tell his story to the world.
But as they delve further into the lawyer’s traumatic memories, a world of eerie marshes, moaning winds, and howling spectres begins to emerge. The borders between make-believe and reality begin to blur… and the flesh begins creep.

The Woman In Black has been playing at the Fortune Theatre since 1987, using much of Hill’s own description and dialogue, and minimalist cast and props, to fuel its terrifying tale. It is one of London’s longest-running plays.
