The stage productions of Ghost The Musical and The Wizard Of Oz are both to leave the West End later this year.
Andrew Lloyd Webber’s adaptation of the magical MGM film will reach the end of the yellow brick road on 2 September followed by Matthew Warchus’ production of Ghost The Musical on 6 October.
Lloyd Webber’s production, which brought the Emerald City to the West End in March last year, has seen well-known wizards Michael Crawford, Russell Grant and Des O’Connor take to the London Palladium’s stage alongside contestants of TV talent show Over The Rainbow Danielle Hope and Sophie Evans as the home-loving Dorothy.
Based on the popular film starring Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore, Ghost The Musical enjoyed a successful run at the Piccadilly theatre after premiering in July last year.
Described by OLT’s Caroline Bishop as “a perfectly judged piece of musical theatre,” the spine-tingling show about a couple whose life together is destroyed by murder was nominated for five Olivier Awards including Best New Musical and Best Performance in a Supporting Role in a Musical for Sharon D Clarke who plays the role of phoney psychic Oda Mae Brown, a part made famous by Whoopi Goldberg in the hit 1990 film.
