This week, RuPaul Drag Race royalty is coming to the London stage. Michelle Visage is making her West End debut in Everybody’s Talking About Jamie TONIGHT (18 October)! She will be taking on the role of Jamie’s teacher Miss Hedge – and we are gagging with anticipation. Want to know why? Here are five reasons.
1. Michelle Visage is real
Okay. So not everything about her is real. But there are no flies on her when it comes to dishing out the truth. Coming from a place of love, Michelle speaks her mind to try to make people better… it’s just not taken that way sometimes. And that delivery will be invaluable on the Apollo Theatre stage.
2. She takes as good as she gives
Michelle is known for her harsh-but-fair critiques. She’s also known for is being able to take a jab or two herself. During her time as a judge on RuPaul’s Drag Race, she’s been the butt of the joke more times than a piece of well-shaped foam. Always willing to laugh at herself, we’re expecting a brilliant performance void of inhibitions.
3. She can get those laughs
Whether you’re laughing at her or with her, Michelle Visage is comedy gold. Though we won’t see her witty one-liners, we’re sure she’ll bring the fire to every line she speaks, sings or raps. And if she starts laughing, you won’t stop!
4. Those reactions
Calling Michelle Visage animated is beyond an injustice. If we’ve learned anything during her time on RuPaul’s Drag Race, it’s that Michelle can serve some real energy. Will she become a scene stealer?
5. She’s an LGBTQ advocate
Despite playing the nay-saying teacher in Everybody’s Talking About Jamie, Michelle supports and rallies for LGBTQ rights with every breath she takes. Though she gets some flack, this ally to the cause continues to spread the love at every opportunity. So having her star in this particular show couldn’t be more right.
Bonus reason:
More of a question than a reason. Is it even drag if Michelle isn’t there? Well, yes. But she definitely makes it a million times more fabulous.
